OUR STORY

How did NextGen Showcase come to be?

NextGen Showcase was founded in 2022 after our team recognised the lack of practical educational programs which allow for the next generation to learn from current themed entertainment industry professionals.

In 2019, Project Director Laura Marakowits led a similar project alongside Alex Korting, which resulted in all of the participants receiving offers for paid work as a result of their efforts. It was evident that employers were actively seeking candidates with experience working in diverse, international teams.

Young professionals Lars van de Crommert, Emma Bashford, Ryan-Sam Marshall and Katie Baker had taken part in multiple themed entertainment design competitions as Students, but found that they did not offer any practical education, mentorship or structure as they developed attraction concepts.

In 2022, the management team was brought together with a shared vision: to make the industry more accessible for the next generation not just students or young people, but anyone looking to enter the industry!

The first iteration of NextGen Showcase in 2022/23 saw over 120 applications from across Europe, with around half of all applicants taking part in the project. Participants have commended the program for its holistic approach to education, the opportunity to build a strong professional network, and to create high quality portfolio content.

The second iteration of NextGen Showcase was opened up to applicants from anywhere in the world, no matter their level of experience or education.

We’re always looking for passion for, and dedication to, the themed entertainment industry! Please register your interest in our 2024/25 program here. Applications are open from May 6th 2024.

NextGen Showcase operates as a volunteer-led not-for-profit organisation, based primarily in the United Kingdom, with representatives also based in The Netherlands. We also work with our partner organisation, Big Break Foundation, a registered not-for-profit in the USA.
